    You get a text, you look at your phone.

    Why Text Messaging Works

    In an age of ignored emails and social media platforms that charge you to reach your own followers, you need a direct line to your supporters. Right now that’s permission-based short message service (SMS) text messaging.

    • 98% open rate. People carry their mobile phones everywhere, so when you get a text, you look at your cell phone. Period.
    • 48% response rate. People get texts from people they want to hear from, and they respond. Big time. Email response rates are closer to 2-4%. This response rate only works with permission—we’re not talking thousands of unsolicited texts (ahem, politicians!?).
    • $135 average donation. Compared to $45 with email. People give more. Why? It has to do with permission and relationships. Again, this isn’t a random politician sending thousands of texts to any phone number they can get, it’s targeted messages to engaged supporters.
